small things

I started this blog back when I first got married. It's been almost 2 years and I feel I am finally ready and in a place to write about my process as I have changed "his" home into "our" home. One of the first things we bought when we got married was a desk.

Isn't this space lovely? I promise it does not look like this anymore but we'll go there some other time.
A few months later my sweet husband surprised me with a chair for Valentines day.

I love him and this zebra print chair! But... one of the biggest changes early on was this beauty:

I got to work doing a little research and looking at mantles and decided a simple one would be best. After measuring and waiting it finally came and we got to work.

It took a couple trial and error tries but we finally got it up and I couldn't be more excited. Some day I dream of a big beautiful mantle but not in this home. To the right of the fireplace is built in cabinetry that takes up 3/4 of the wall. It houses our TV, games, blankets, movies, etc. So it's safe to say it will remain!

It instantly brought character (though a small amount) but my mind was already racing with the possibilities this new mantle brought. Here she is today after many changes and tweaks. Simple, but just what I was going for.
